Sea means Power

Updated: Feb 7

Open ocean sailing has taught us that S-E-A means P-O-W-E-R. Jolie is a decent size, but we are constantly reminded that we’re a mere rubber ducky bobbing along in endless blue energy. We try to capture wind and manage waves/swell to reach our next destination, in as comfortable manner as possible. But the bruises, white blisters of rope burned hands and stubbed toes, left with hanging nails, are the small reminders that we are at the mercy of her power. In awe of her power, really. Hard to put into words.

Highlights included two visits from playful dolphins, jumping, darting and racing circles along the bow of the boat. Pods of at least dozen each.

Calvin diligently tossed out trolling lines, successfully pulling in a yellowfin tuna. Sushi!!!

We hooked two other somethings which quickly snapped the lines. In our minds, massive tuna or mahi most certainly over powered the rig!

Four and a half days after departing Bonaire, we chugged into Porvenir in the San Blas Islands, having sailed the entire way without turning on the engine (except when we had fish on the line). Oh, it’s so pleasant to anchor in a quiet, calm bay and walk on solid ground.

Looking forward to exploring these islands - over 340 of them - a long archipelago that extends along Panamas Caribbean coast. In the distance, we can see sprouts of palm tree clusters dotted along the horizon, ringed with white sandy beaches. Thinking we may check out Chichime today….htg

A friend of mine, who travels, commented to me pictures of the Grand Canyon do it no justice. You have to be there to actually take in it's enormity. This must be that same experience only on a much grander scale. No land in sight, seeing animals, all of whom are wild. None of the sounds we have become accustom to in our daily lives. Everything around you happening because it happens and not because people had anything to do with it except for the skills you brought with you. It must be absolutely beautiful and humbling at the same time. God uninterrupted.

Very very helpful blog to understand the powers of the sea and those that attempt to harness it.
